BIRPOA Executive Meeting – September 20th, 2008
Present: Bob Cavenagh, Sharron Curley, John Curley, John Feltmate, Alice Howarth,
Ceyhan Lennon, Andy Shaw, Jae Shaw
1. Treasurer’s Report:
- Bank balance: $3,601.36 plus some un-deposited funds (3 outstanding signs
and some membership fees).
2. Membership Report:
- 41 members paid to date. Ceyhan and Wendy will contact 4 more who had joined
in previous years but not this year.
3. Review of this year’s activities:
- We would like more attendees for
the AGM. Consider sending out an e-mail reminder for the AGM and market it
as an event
- Consider an art display for next year’s AGM
- 4 benches installed – possibly another 2 in the future
- Trails cleared
- In the future seek views/info from residents before clearing
- Consider pre-marking what we’re going to clear or get residents to mark
what they don’t want removed
- Bill Johnson suggests continuing to clear next year with a more detailed
cutting device. Include funding in next year’s budget.
- Most of the main trail is 10-20 feet wide. Consider posting a trail description
on the BIRPOA web site
4. Planning for Next Year:

Bob Cavenagh takes over as Vice President
- Get newsletter out earlier. Include a survey and a comment box
- Set dates for meetings in advance (early May to late Sept) every 4 – 6
weeks. Andy will propose dates by e-mail.
- Bob Cavenagh will help John Curley with content for web site
- Get Invading Species signs from FOCA. Post at Marina and Public Dock.
- We have had problems with speeding boats. Address this on the bulletin
board and in the newsletter. List the regulations and a set of steps a
complainant can take to deal with the problem
5. Library:
- Library is being used and it has received lots of donations.
- Weeding of books need to be done.
- Books will be packed in clear plastic bags for the winter
- Need to mark books for Permanent Collection
6. Marina:
- wheel will be fixed next spring
- Alice Howarth will put down a wooden platform in front of the bulletin
board
- Get a glass cover for bulletin board
7. Rights of Way:
- Delay faced due to Ralph Robertson’s property. We want to resolve
it without getting a survey etc. Proposal is now expected early next spring
- Include an update about the situation on the web site
- Sharron and John will have a conversation with Ralph about it
8. Other Business:
- Investigate putting together a ‘Lake Plan’. Martha (c/o Michael
Butler) would be a good contact for this.
- Bob Cavenagh will contact her.
FOCA also has some information on Lake Plans.
- Hydro should be contacted about cleaning up under the wires
