BIRPOA Executive Meeting – May 24th, 2009

 

Present: Bob Cavenagh, Sharron Curley, John Curley, John Feltmate, Alice Howarth, Andy Shaw, Jae Shaw

 

 

1. Future Meetings:

2 meetings: One in June and one in July
 

2. August 2nd AGM:
• Set up shelter for video presentation on Bears
• Have township come out and talk about Official Plan? (give them a time limit)
• ‘President Emeritus’ Ralph Robertson and next year Carl Reid
• Clothes line Art Show
• Info on Boat Operator’s License/ Safe Boating book (Sharron will get)
• Something for kids?
• Possibility of Susan Cavenagh and Jae Shaw organizing AGM
• BIRPOA: Building Island Community
• Something on wakes and speeding
• Lawyer (rights of way) present?
• Consider following AGM with ‘Cottage Expo’ one year

 

3. Membership:
• Susan Cavenagh and Wendy could call people who are not members
• Perception we are not doing anything for people on the other side of the island
• List what we’ve accomplished on next years membership solicitation and include a comment box and/or survey
• Consider having Associate Membership for off islanders ($20 to join)
• Off islanders could advertise and sit-in with voice, but no vote

 

4. Library:
• Need to purge collection
• Need helpers - Bob has a list to call

 

5. Marina:
• Alice Howarth will take care of bulletin board
• Get a glass cover for bulletin board? Suggestion box?
• Include message about speeding/invasive species
• Post ‘Standards for Suggested Trail Maintenance’ (by 2009 or 2010 AGM)

 

6. Loon Platforms:
• LOON CALL – loon platform building bee (before AGM?)

7. Boat Speeding Issue:
• Registered letter sent by a cottage owner to speeders and attorney has been contacted
• Post BIRPOA signage on crown land

 

8. Web Site/Communications:
• Make an announcement about web services (WTC Communications) on web site
• WTC would charge approximately $475 + taxes per year
• Can have 2-3 cottages sharing a connection (Bob will read fine print)
• John Curley needs help reorganizing web site. Bob Cavenagh will help
• New program (Word Press) would pay for itself with advertisers

 

9. Sand Lake Road Deterioration:
• Individuals should call the township to complain. Should BIRPOA call?
• Alice will deal with getting a township person to AGM

 

10. Finances:
• Signatures have to change to Bob Cavenagh, Andy Shaw and Alice Howarth
• Have received 4-5memberships for 2009

 

11. Rights of Way:
• John Feltmate has a draft letter. Bob Cavenagh will edit it into brochure format.
• Letter will go out prior to AGM (July 1st). Deadline will be 2-3 weeks after the AGM

 

12. Trail Maintenance:
• A “spring cut” is needed. Big cut only every 3-5 years
• 2 more benches will be installed using white pine logs cut this winter
• Hydro not through yet
• Extra hand painted signs needed directing people to library, old bridge

 

13. Other:
• Sunday 4-8 at public dock is garbage pick-up. Bag tags available at Gordonier’s for $2.00 each
• Call Orland re finishing the constitution
