BIRPOA Executive Meeting – June 21st, 2009

 

Present: Bob Cavenagh, Sharron Curley, John Curley, John Feltmate, Alice Howarth, Bill Johnson, Andy Shaw, Jae Shaw

 

1. August 2nd AGM:
• Alice Howarth will approach the Hortons to ask if we can use the field/barn for AGM
• BEARS: Bob C. has a computer/video image projector for Bear presentation. Consider installing it in Horton barn. Presentation at 1 pm.
• ‘President Emeritus’ Ralph Robertson this year. Bob C. will present. Consider Etta Glover and Carl Reid for upcoming years.
• Art Show: consider hanging work on barn. Send e-mail to cottagers with Call for Artists, AGM Agenda and reminder to bring chequebook. Andy and Jae will draft e-mail.
• Safe Boating Table: info on speeding, Operator’s License and Safe Boating book
• Invite Etta and David (or rep) Glover to AGM
• Kids table: paint and paper
• Pot Luck lunch
• Consider breakfast meeting prior to AGM

 

2. Membership:
• 25 members to date – less than last year
• Andy will call Susan Cavenagh to ask if she’d be willing to “spearhead” a calling campaign. She will need a list of past members who haven’t rejoined this year and residents who have never joined. Sharron will send out the database address.

 

3. Library:
• Need helpers. Bob has a list to call to help purge and maintain library

 

4. Marina:
• Boat speeding poster to be made and installed by Andy Shaw
• Dead batteries are a problem. Consider purchasing a charger for general use. Poll membership at AGM.

 

5. Loons:
• 29 adult loons and 2 babies were counted on June 20th. One of the adults was still sitting on a nest.
• LOON CALL to build platforms. Day of AGM? Bill Johnson, Bobbie Glover and Bob Cavenagh will lead this project.

6. Boat Speeding Issue:
• No response to registered letter sent by Russell
• Include Speeding as an agenda item for AGM
• Poster being made by Andy – check out FOCA website for info

 

7. Web Site/Communications:
• Sticking with Dream Weavers but have blogs linked to site so info is more up to date, flexible and changeable
• Post something about speeding on the site (Are you responsible for your wake?)
• Updates to be completed in a month or so

 

8. Finances:
• Deposits of $840.00 made. Current balance of $4,243.00.
• Haven’t paid FOCA or Insurance yet.
• Transfer signing authority to Bob Cavenagh and Andy Shaw

 

9. Rights of Way:
• Bob Cavenagh is editing ROW letter into brochure format to be completed in a week. Have it done/sent by July 1st. Send pamphlet in the mail prior to the AGM along with Call for Artists, Call for Members, AGM Agenda, reminder to bring chequebook and reminder they must be a member to vote on issues. Also send e-mail reminder.

 

10. Trail Maintenance:
• More directional signs were installed June 21. Additional signs needed at the cost of approximately $130.00
• Bill Johnson will call the same contractor for a mowing estimate (standard 6ft wide path)
• 5 logs for benches need to be split and lugged to site (wheelbarrow? Bobbie Glover with his 4 wheeler and trailer?)
• Hand painted signs needed in 2 places (2 for Main Trail and possible another directing to Library). Jae to complete.

 

11. Future Meetings:
• Executive Meeting to be held on July 12th (date/time to be confirmed).
• Consider inviting Township Official to discuss Official Plan, trash, Sand Lake Road, taxes, establishing a lake plan, septic re-inspection... We’d pass on the info at the AGM. Consider inviting Financial Planner (passing the cottage on), Bell Internet Access, Ken Watson and Eric Draper to future meetings.

 

12. Other:
• Orland will finish the constitution
• Beaver epidemic south side of island may need to be addressed
